Regional Projects

Herenga ā Nuku works closely with local government, tangata whenua and community groups to develop long-term public access and trails strategies.

This work helps regions to grow connectivity and well-being. Their goal is to successfully extend access, recreation, and targeted tourism opportunities at a regional scale.

Our regional projects include:

Kaiaraara Rock overlooking Whangaroa Harbour

Northland Regional Walking and Cycling Project

The project will develop a 700 km network of walking and cycling trails looping around the region and connecting the Far North to North Auckland.

Tairāwhiti Project

Our plan is to support local people to connect to the whenua and link communities through a regional network of tracks, trails and public access.

Connecting Franklin-North Waikato Project

This project aims to integrate community aspirations and plans to connect fast-growing towns in the area north and south of the Waikato River.

Promoting access: Pūhoi to Mangawhai

Herenga ā Nuku partnered with Auckland Council to develop a coastal adventure trail spanning Pūhoi to Mangawhai and connecting numerous north Auckland towns.
